چکیده

The luminescence from single laser produced cavitation bubbles for varying degrees of asphericity is investigated temporally, spatially, and spectrally. The degree of asphericity is controlled with an adjustable rigid boundary near the bubble. Temporally, single and multiple light emission events happen during a time interval of 80 ns. The luminescence duration increases with increasing asphericity. Spatially, the emissions from nonspherically collapsing bubbles display a pronounced halo around the central spot several times larger than the luminescence from spherical collapse. Spectrally, the ratio of the line to continuum emission of the sodium doublet is enhanced, whereas the total emitted energy decreases by four orders of magnitude as compared to the spherical collapse. These findings point towards emission not only from the bubble interior but also from the liquid surrounding the bubble. © 2002 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1489682#

Dynamics of laser-induced cavitation bubbles

Single cavitation bubble luminescence induced by laser in contrast to single bubble sonoluminescence has no need in a sound field for a strong collapse and for light emission. The cavitation bubbles are produced by focused laser light and make the single strong collapse. As shown experimentally, the number of emitted photons from cavitation luminescence is much greater than it was observed in s...

Luminescence from acoustic-driven laser-induced cavitation bubbles

The influence of a continuous sound field on the first oscillation cycle and on the cavitation luminescence of a transient laser-induced bubble is investigated experimentally. The variation of the collapse phase is predicted with a simple numerical model and compared with experiment. Bubble dynamics is mainly influenced by three parameters: the phase of bubble generation, the size of the bubble...

Luminescence from cavitation bubbles deformed in uniform pressure gradients.

Presented here are observations that demonstrate how the deformation of millimetric cavitation bubbles by a uniform pressure gradient quenches single-collapse luminescence. Our innovative measurement system captures a broad luminescence spectrum (wavelength range, 300-900 nm) from the individual collapses of laser-induced bubbles in water. By varying the bubble size, driving pressure, and perce...

Luminescence from Spherically and Aspherically Collapsing Laser Induced Bubbles

Light emission from bubbles in liquids has received increased attention with the advent of single bubble levitation in sound fields [1]. In this Letter we present investigations of the light emission from single collapsing cavitation bubbles: single cavitation bubble luminescence (SCBL). Our method makes use of focused laser light to produce largely empty bubbles in a liquid, a method used earl...

Spectrum of Luminescence from Laser-induced Bubbles in Water and Cryogenic Liquids

The spectrum of the luminescence pulse from collapsing laser-induced bubbles in water and cryogenic liquids has been measured. For small bubbles in water the spectrum approximates that of a black-body at about 7800 K, while for bubbles whose maximum radius is greater than 1 mm the OH* molecular band at 310 nm becomes apparent, a feature which is also seen in multi-bubble sonoluminescence. The l...
